Although there is no exact equivalent to our term science in Greek, Western science may still be said to have originated with the Greeks, for they were the first to attempt to explain natural phenomena consistently in naturalistic terms, and they initiated the practices of rational criticism of scientific theories.
This study traces Greek science through the work of the Pythagoreans, the Presocratic natural philosophers, the Hippocratic writers, Plato, the fourth-century B.C. astronomers, and Aristotle. G. E. R. Lloyd also investigates the relationships between science and philosophy and science and medicine; he discusses the social and economic setting of early Greek science; and he analyzes the motives and incentives of the different groups of writers.

Please don’t write a paper about how Christians are narrow-minded and intolerant. I think people today are becoming very "intolerant" of Christians. Yes, I am aware that Galileo was force to recant his theory that the earth revolved around the sun, and that many other ridiculous things have happened. But also consider:
- Christians like Harriet Beecher Stowe were prominent in the abolitionist movement in the USA.
- William Wilberforce was a devoted Christian whose beliefs led him to (almost single-handedly) crusade against the slave trade. He succeeded and England eventually abolished the slave trade.
- Corrie Ten Boom was a Dutch Christian who was part of the resistance movement during World War II. She saved the lives of many Jews who she hid in her home, and ended up landing in a concentration camp herself!
- Churches throughout the USA jumped into action to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.
- Christian organizations like World Vision help to provide food, clean water, housing, and education to children throughout the third world. Operation Christmas Child is a Christian organization which sends Christmas gifts to poor children who would not get gifts otherwise.
The message of Christianity is LOVE. Despite the fact that mankind is wicked, God loved us enough to send his son to die (because someone had to pay for our wickedness) and allow us to be forgiven. This love should motivate us to also show love to others, and to fight for justice and goodness in the world. Some people lose sight of this, and get caught up in dogma instead. (Then you have things like Galileo being forced to recant…) This happens because, as I said before, mankind is wicked. But that is not what we are supposed to be – that is not what Christianity is about.
Please keep this in mind as you write. Don’t be brainwashed by the media! Look at both sides.
